The film charts Vincent van Gogh’s death through interviews with characters from his life. Loving Vincent blends historical facts with a fictional plot. In spring 1889, Van Gogh left Arles and admitted himself into a mental asylum, St. Paul Monastery & Hospital ( St. Paul de Mausole) in Saint Remy. He felt hopeful that here he would be treated for his mental illness. Theo, Vincent’s brother, arranged for two small rooms in the asylum. These were two adjoining cells with barred windows. Sunflowers is the name of two distinct series of still life paintings by Vincent van Gogh. The first series was painted in Paris in 1887 and depicted the flowers lying on the ground. While the second set, created a year later in Arles, shows a bouquet of sunflowers in a vase. In 1889, Van Gogh created three additional repetitions of his Sunflowers.
